SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) – The Bay Area will see significant storm impacts Tuesday as an atmospheric river brings heavy rain, urban and river flooding, and strong winds to the region.

There will be an increasing chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. A Flood Watch remains in effect through 4 a.m. Wednesday for the Bay Area and Central Coast. Residents of areas prone to flooding are advised to be prepared.

The worst rain and winds are still forecast between 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday, During this time winds could gust up to 60 mph which will certainly lead to trees coming down.

San Francisco, Daly City added to Severe Thunderstorm Warning

The National Weather Service has added San Francisco, Daly City and Colma to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning.

ABC7 News meteorologist Drew Tuma says this kind of warning is extremely rare for San Francisco.

Drew says we could see wind gusts up to 70 mph and anyone outside should seek shelter immediately.

San Francisco could see wind gusts of 50+ miles per hour.

The Atmospheric River is making its way across the Bay Area. The National Weather Service says San Francisco could see wind gusts of 50 or more miles per hour up until 4:30 p.m.

ABC7 Meteorologist Drew Tuma posted on X at 2:59 p.m., writing:

“Heads up San Francisco! The next 60-90 minutes will feature some intense bursts of wind. Could see gusts 50mph+.”

Power outages reported throughout Bay Area, PG&E says

Thousands of people around the Bay Area are currently without power, according to PG&E.

Northbound Hwy 101 closed in Windsor due to flooding

The California Highway Patrol has shut down northbound Highway 101 at Arata Lane in Windsor due to major flooding.

The southbound direction is partially open but it’s only passable on the shoulder.
